Coroner Identifies Aurora Man Killed in Colorado Highway 9 Crash, Urbino Amaro
Authorities have identified the man who died in a fatal head-on crash on Colorado Highway 9 earlier this month. The Summit County Coroner’s Office confirmed that the victim was 21-year-old , of Aurora.
According to an email from Summit County Coroner Amber Flenniken, Garcia was pronounced dead following the collision, which occurred on January 6, approximately 10 miles north of Silverthorne. The Colorado State Patrol also released details surrounding the circumstances of the crash.
Investigators said a Dodge pickup truck was traveling northbound on Highway 9 at the time of the incident, while a Ford pickup truck was traveling southbound. For reasons still under investigation, the Dodge reportedly lost control while traveling on the roadway.

The Colorado State Patrol stated that the Dodge began to rotate and crossed into the southbound lane, directly into the path of the Ford pickup. The Ford then collided with the passenger side of the Dodge, resulting in a violent impact. Following the collision, both vehicles spun off the side of the highway.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene, where lifesaving efforts were attempted. Despite those efforts, Garcia succumbed to his injuries.
Officials have not released additional information regarding contributing factors such as road conditions, speed, or impairment. The Colorado State Patrol continues to investigate the crash as they work to determine the exact cause and sequence of events.
