Sherif Mahmoud Man, Identified in Fatal Ashley River Bridge eBike Hit-and-Run Crash

Authorities have identified the man who died in a hit-and-run crash involving an eBike on the Ashley River Bridge earlier this week. The Charleston County Coroner’s Office confirmed Thursday that the victim was 36-year-old Sherif Mahmoud, a resident of Egypt.

According to Charleston County Coroner Bobbi Jo O’Neal, Mahmoud died at the scene from blunt force trauma. Investigators said Mahmoud was operating an electric bicycle at the time of the crash.

Charleston Police Department officers responded to the Ashley River Bridge on January 6 after receiving reports of a serious vehicle-versus-bicycle collision. Upon arrival, officers learned that a bicyclist was traveling in the roadway when he was struck by a passing vehicle.

Police said the driver involved in the collision fled the scene immediately after the impact. As of Wednesday afternoon, neither the driver nor the vehicle had been located.

Investigators are searching for a black or dark blue Lincoln MKX, model years 2011 through 2015. The vehicle is believed to have front-end damage, possibly including missing pieces of the front bumper. Authorities said the vehicle was last seen traveling toward the Lockwood Drive exit ramp in the direction of Bee Street.

The Charleston Police Department continues to investigate the incident and is urging anyone with information to come forward as efforts continue to locate the suspect vehicle and driver. create a title for this post
