Kings Mountain Teen Makenzie Gayle Evonne Allen Dies After Brave Battle With Leukemia
KINGS MOUNTAIN, NORTH CAROLINA — Makenzie Gayle Evonne Allen, 16, passed away on January 7, 2026, at Levine Children’s Hospital following a long and courageous battle with leukemia. Born on July 20, 2009, Makenzie was the beloved daughter of Kenneth and Crystal Allen.
Makenzie was a junior at Kings Mountain High School, where she was known for her kind heart and strong spirit. She had a deep love for her family and found joy in simple moments, especially spending time fishing with her father. A devoted fan of Stitch, Makenzie also adored her dogs Lily, Dixie, and Blackjack, who brought her comfort and happiness.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Elvin and Evonne Greene, and Girleen Greene. Makenzie is survived by her parents, Kenneth and Crystal Allen of the home; her brothers, Matthew Allen, Christopher Allen (Brooke), and Westley Allen; and her sister, Tiffany Allan. She is also survived by her paternal grandparents, Libby and Randy Allen, along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Her godmother, Tabitha Curtis, held a special place in her life.
Makenzie leaves behind special friends Brandie, Chloe, Bryan Champion, and Lori Hamrick. She also leaves behind the love of her life, Alex Champion. The two shared a deep bond, enjoying sweet dates, fishing, and beach trips with Alex’s family, who loved Makenzie dearly.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Chestnut Ridge Church, with visitation prior to the service. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
