The Mt. Vernon community mourns the loss of a true icon, as Coach Doug Peacock of Fortville, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on January 8, 2026, after a courageous, multi-year battle with cancer.

A Hall of Fame inductee in 2024, Coach Peacock’s legacy is etched in the rise of Mt. Vernon Marauder football. From his start in 1994 until his retirement from coaching in 2010 and teaching in 2014, he was a foundational rock of the program’s culture. While raised a “Royal,” he became a fiercely proud Marauder, dedicating his life to shaping young athletes.

Renowned for his wing-T expertise, Peacock was a masterful teacher and a generous mentor. His strategic mind helped secure countless victories, but his true impact was measured in the positive outlook and tenacious effort he instilled in all he coached.
