Zyon Kaween, Coroner Identifies 6-Year-Old Girl Killed in New Year’s Eve Crash Near Mojave

Authorities have identified the young child who died following a tragic crash near Mojave on New Year’s Eve. The Kern County Coroner’s Office confirmed that the victim was 6-year-old Zyon Kaween Romero of Weldon.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on December 31, 2025, at approximately 12:41 p.m. Officers were dispatched to the scene on southbound Highway 14, north of Phillips Road, after receiving reports of a serious traffic collision.

Preliminary information indicates that multiple vehicles were involved in the crash. Emergency responders arrived quickly and provided medical assistance to those injured. Despite lifesaving efforts, Zyon Kaween Romero was pronounced dead as a result of injuries sustained in the collision.

The circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation. CHP officials have not yet released details regarding the number of vehicles involved, possible contributing factors, or whether road or weather conditions played a role.
